Many of the new MP3 Players that charge through a USB port on your computer will play for more than 8 hours at a low volume level.
Should Somnience Be Played Loud Or Soft?
It may take a couple of nights for you to find your perfect volume level. It should help to know that the music will begin and end at the same volume level. If you start the CD, setting the volume as if you were listening to a soft rock or light jazz disc, you should be okay. The music will get softer and softer within the first hour as you drift off. Throughout the night, it will remain at a very quiet level – barely audible. If you do wake up, you will hear soft wisps of music to ease you back into sleep. About an hour before the music ends, that music will slowly increase in volume, gently waking you from your restful night’s sleep, and will end at the same volume level as it began.
What If I Wake Up In The Middle Of The Night?
It is perfectly normal to wake up a few times over the course of the night. In fact, your brain waves during REM sleep are very nearly the same as when you are awake. This is why you are able to remember your dreams; your dream state and waking state are close neighbors. For the insomniac, the problem is… falling back to sleep. However, by playing Somnience, when you do wake up, the music will guide you right back into sleep. The music even will have the same effect in case you have to get out of bed for a potty break.
When Should I Start The CD?
The music will last a full 8 hours, so plan your night for when you need to get up. Start the disc at 10:00 pm and you will be awake by 6:00am, 11:00pm to 7:00am, and so on. Once you are used to the music you may wake up early in that last “wake-up” hour. The more you use Somnience, the more you’ll recognize your own sleep schedule.
What Else Can I Do To Help Me Sleep?
Try not to read or watch TV in bed. Keep the bedroom activities to a minimum; sleeping and cuddling. Wind down toward the end of the day with a warm bath or other calming activity. Avoid caffeine, alcohol or heavy meals before bedtime. Make sure your bedroom is comfortable and quiet… and dark! Place “postit” notes over all the little points of light from your clock radio, TV, or other electronic equipment. And most important of all, relax your mind; don’t worry about what happened today, or what’s going to happen tomorrow. And don’t worry about getting to sleep!
